Boston Adventures, Ghost Tours & So Many Steps

By Katelyn Mayer | PA & MD REALTOR® | Iron Valley Real Estate of Central PA

In August 2023, Brad and I took a weekend getaway to Boston, and it was packed from start to finish. From an early flight and Red Sox game to boat rides, haunted history, and more walking than I’ve ever done in my life — it was the kind of trip that reminded me how much there is to explore just a short flight away.

✈️ Getting There & Around

We took off from Philadelphia (PHL) bright and early on August 4, 2023, at 6:10 AM and landed in Boston (BOS) by 7:42 AM — giving us the whole day to hit the ground running.

We rented a 2019 Hyundai Ioniq Plug-In Hybrid through Turo (hosted by Nick P.) and had a great experience overall. The only challenge was walking to the pickup point — something to consider if you're traveling with bulky luggage. Luckily, we packed light.

๐Ÿจ Where We Stayed

Our home base was the Hyatt Place Boston / Seaport District, checking in at 3:00 PM on August 4 and out on August 6 at 11:00 AM. It was clean, comfortable, and in a great location for getting around — especially on foot, which was the theme of the weekend!

⚾ Red Sox vs. Blue Jays at Fenway

That evening, we checked a bucket list item off: Fenway Park to see the Red Sox take on the Blue Jays on Friday, August 4 at 7:10 PM.

Being in the ballpark with the Green Monster looming over the field and the energy of the crowd was amazing. There’s nothing like the vibe of a summer night at Fenway.

⛴️ Saturday Sunset Boat Ride

On Saturday, August 5 at 6:00 PM, we took a scenic boat tour with City Experiences, cruising along the Boston Harbor as the sun began to set. It was a peaceful break from all the walking and gave us a different view of the city — the skyline from the water was stunning.

๐Ÿ‘ป Ghosts, Gravestones & Hidden History

Right after the boat ride, we dove into the darker side of Boston with a ghost tour, and it ended up being one of the most fascinating parts of the trip.

We visited Paul Revere’s grave, learned about mass burial grounds, and heard chilling stories from Boston’s colonial past. The city’s layered history is unlike anywhere else — every corner seems to have a secret or story behind it.

๐Ÿ‘Ÿ So. Much. Walking.

Boston is not a driving city — and trust me, I tried. Between tight streets, limited parking, and complicated layouts, I quickly learned to embrace walking… a lot.

By the end of the trip, I had walked more than I ever have in a single weekend — but honestly, it was worth it. Every step led to something new to see or learn.

✈️ Heading Home

We flew out on Sunday, August 6, with an 8:00 AM flight from BOS, landing back in Philadelphia by 9:34 AM — tired, a little sore, and full of great memories.

๐Ÿก The Takeaway

Boston gave me a lot — new experiences, sore legs, historic insight, and a reminder that planning makes all the difference (in both trips and real estate!).

Whether it’s a vacation or a move, having the right guide helps you make the most of the journey. I’m here for that — with all the steps, all the insight, and no ghost stories (unless you want them!).
